DERMATOLOGY AND PLASTIC SURGERY
In 2002, Bernhardt Labs added a Dermatopathology division led by Charles Perniciaro, M.D.. Dr. Perniciaro is one of the country's foremost experts in dermatopathology, having formerly served as chief of dermatopathology for the Mayo Clinic and on the faculties of The University of Florida, Tulane University, and Louisiana State University. Through his leadership and expertise, Bernhardt Labs has become the premier, full service Dermatopathology laboratory in Florida. Dr. Perniciaro has published over fifty peer- reviewed medical articles and book chapters. He has special interests in malignant melanoma, cutaneous lymphoma and inflammatory dermatoses. In addition, he is a practicing Dermatologist.
Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons want a credentialed Dermatopathologist to read their specimens. At Bernhardt Labs, we have one of the best skin pathologists in the country. We wanted someone who had the respect of all our colleagues because it is important to know and respect who is reading their specimens. With most labs, specimens can be read by different pathologists on a regular basis not giving any consistency in your reads. Others have specimens shipped across the country giving way to logistical problems. We process all specimens in-house. Our doctors are a phone call away when needed for consultation, and readily initiate the call when they notice something suspicious.
Bernhardt Labs processes all special stains in-house. Our histology department utilizes Ventana's Immunohistochemistry system that creates unparalleled consistency with these stains.
